Buenos Aires!

BUENOS AIRES!

Once again I'm behind on blogging.... But I'll try to at least give a quick update on my trip to Buenos Aires! (I never blogged about my trip to northern Argentina, but just know that it was amazing. Loved every second of it!)

My friend Danielle and I left Córdoba late Thursday evening. We took an overnight bus to Buenos Aires and arrived sometime around 8 in the morning. First thing we did was find a mini cafe in the terminal to get some coffee and medialunas. Apparently the medialunas are even better in Buenos Aires, and I would have to say that the ones we had in the terminal were pretty darn good! :) We then arrived at the hostel and I was so excited to immediately be greeted by the one and only Abby Hegland!!! Abby is studying in Montevideo, Uruguay for the semester, so this was an awesome opportunity for us to meet up! The actual trip was a blast!

Highlights:

- Saw "La Flor." A huge mechanical flower that apparently opens and closes and different times of the day. We didn't get to see it move, but it was still cool and fun for taking pictures! I've decided that it's kind of like the "bean" of Buenos Aires!

- Went to an International book fair. Apparently it's one of the largest in the world! It was definitely overwhelming at times, but cool to see such a huge variety of books!

- Went to a Japanese Garden! (Thanks Abbs for the pictures! hehe)

- We went to La Recoleta Cemetery. It was such an interesting place! I've never seen anything like it. Rows upon rows of graves, many that belong to important people in history.

- Went to my first milonga (tango show)! Unfortunately we got way too tired, and left before the professionals performed, but I still enjoyed watching the "normal" people dance. Makes me wish that I knew how!

- We took an unexpected tour of the Casa Rosada! It is kind of similar to their version of the White House, but the president doesn't actually live there. We had no idea how easy it would be just to walk into the building, grab a number, and then wait for the tour guide. Fun little surprise!

- We went to La Boca! It's a very colorful, very touristy part of Buenos Aires, but I thought it was super cool! We also got scammed in a taxi leaving there though... so, be careful. haha!

- Another awesome highlight was the wonderful food we ate. Not gonna lie, we ate pretty well on this trip! Tried a passion fruit waffle, choclo (corn) pizza, and had an amazing asado meal that I am thankful that I shared with Abby! So much food. :)
